(MENAFN – Jordan News Agency) Amman, Mar. 8 (Petra)-President of the Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) Hamdi Taba’a discussed on Sunday, with the Afghan Ambassador to Jordan, Tariq Shah Bahrami, ways to develop and strengthen investment and economic relations and build strategic partnerships between the business communities of the two countries.
According to a press release of the JBA, the two sides stressed the need to enhance joint economic cooperation, exchange experiences, and intensify joint meetings aimed at updating both sides on the most important investment opportunities available in the two countries.
During the meeting, Taba’a pointed out the importance of working to develop joint economic relations and promoting investments, pointing to the business and investment environment available in the Kingdom and as a safe destination for investment and trade.
He pointed to the JBA’s role in promoting and marketing investment opportunities through the joint business councils, which link the JBA with 30 Arab and foreign countries, calling on the Afghan private sector to benefit from the economic opportunities available in the Kingdom.
Taba’a stressed the possibility of cooperation in the health and medical tourism sectors, especially as Jordan is one of the developed countries in the region in those fields.
For his part, Bahrami underlined the efforts being made to build, and develop bilateral relations in various fields, adding his country’s economy is improving along with the interest in making Afghanistan a bridge linking Central Asia and its south.
The envoy said the trade exchanges of the two countries are “modest,” which requires action to make unrelenting efforts to enhance them, stressing the embassy’s readiness to cooperate with the Jordanian private sector, especially the JBA in this regard.
He voiced the desire of the Afghan side to establish a joint business council with the JBA and his country’s private sector to enhance ties between the business communities of the two countries, as well as the possibility of discussing the establishment of a trade fair for Afghan and Jordanian industries.
Jordan’s exports to Afghanistan reached $1 million during 2018, compared to about $5 million in imports.
