ACC, JBA join forces to establish joint council

The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and the Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) have teamed up to form a joint council that will be a nucleus for the unification of private sector institutions under one umbrella to serve the national economy and help it overcome persistent challenges.

The two parties stressed that the formation of the council will be followed by a call by private parties to hold a joint meeting aimed at forming an advisory council comprising the industrial, commercial, service and agricultural sectors to provide solutions and proposals for the challenges facing the national economy.

In a joint meeting Saturday at the ACC, the two bodies said the national economy is facing enormous challenges that affect the competitiveness of the Kingdom, which requires the public and private sectors to join hands to develop a common vision that identifies obstacles and offers possible solutions to restore momentum to the economic sectors and enable them to grow, generate more jobs and expand investments.

Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq said that the aim of the meeting is to cooperate with the Jordanian Businessmen Association to develop a “roadmap” to serve the national economy and enable it to withstand and overcome difficulties.

He called for a reconsideration of the relationship between the public and private sectors, stressing that the private sector is an important partner of the government and able to provide realistic solutions and improve the output of the economy.

President of the JBA, Hamdi Tabba, stressed the need for the Kingdom to be a single development area with some privileges to the governorates, stressing that the association backs any bid designed to bring the private sector under one umbrella.

He called for speeding up the endorsement of the zakat law, and that it would contribute to easing the burden on the treasury of the state and citizens because it would end many fees and taxes.
