Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Ahmad Hanandeh said Saturday that about 81 percent, or JD6.5 billion out of JD8 billion in government collections, is paid through electronic payments.
However, the remaining JD1.5 billion, about 19 percent, is paid through 27 million direct cash movements, which means that most of the amount is collected electronically, but most of the movements are done directly, he told a meeting organized by the Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) to discuss the impact of electronic services on the ease of doing business.
Hanandeh said his ministry is in charge of enabling the economic transformation of public and private sector institutions and harness technology to provide better and faster service.
The minister told Petra that digital transformation in the Kingdom is incomplete, but it will continue along with technological advancement, as it will save the government capital and operational expenses, but not additional revenue.
He pointed out that the e-government ibfrastructure has saved 60 to 65 million dinars in capital and operational expenses in the last five years.
Hanandeh said the e-government process took 20 years to achieve, adding that ecomplex procedures posed a key challenge to digital transformation, and they must be simplified to accelerate the transformation and enhance the one government and decentralized service.
He pointed out that after its upgrade, Sanad application will include a wide range of distinguished services of the single service platform, with the aim of activating the digital identity, digital signature and digital documents.
For his part, JBA President Hamdi Tabbaa said information technology is a promising supportive of various economic activities, pointing to its key role in achieving sustainable growth, especially in light of the global trend to switch to digital transformation and adopt artificial intelligence, which has become the pillar of any development of economic structures.
He said enhancing cybersecurity contributes to creating a safe and attractive investment and business environment, calling for strenuous efforts to promote Jordan’s image in this regard.
